As the days lengthen and temperatures rise, travelers sense the coming of summer and with it school breaks, road trips and much-needed escapes to destinations far and near. But where are travelers heading, and what kinds of adventures do they seek? Following is a roundup of three observed trends from industry players for the summer of 2024.
01 Beach please
Going through Despegar, Price Travel or Viajes Palacio, resorts all over Mexico are the number one search destination this summer. Cancun, Riviera Maya, Playa del Carmen, Nayarit, Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta you name it, a beach destination is always a good start for summer vacation.
02 Colonial cities are up
Mérida, Oaxaca and San Miguel de Allende are the most visited colonial cities in the country, and remain in the top of mind for travelers every summer. However, according to Travel Shop and Mega Travel – two of the largest tour operators in Mexico – Chiapas, Puebla, Queretaro, Guadalajara, and Campeche are stepping into the spotlight due to their historical value, connectivity and growing importance. For instance, the world famous show Disney Animation: Immersive Experience is currently running in Puebla rather than Mexico City where first rate events usually take place.
03 Cruise Season
Summer cruises are all about soaking the sun, meeting new cultures and detox from our daily routine. There are plenty of options, as seen in NAO Travel Collection and Petra websites, from Caribbean getaways to a one of a kind summer adventure departing from New York all the way to the Bahamas, a wonderful mix between the Big Apple urban experience and a good dose of vitamin sea provided by Royal Caribbean Symphony of the Seas, sailing for the first time from Cape Liberty starting May through October.
